But now he's larger, longer, and has a noticeably bigger beak. In fact, he looks far more like a crow than he did before!

And so Akechi fluffs up his feathers a bit and addresses the Pearl at last.]

Greetings. This is Akechi. I realize that this transformation may be a bit alarming, but I thought it best to announce my recent evolution so that no one believes I've disappeared.

This new form is far more suitable, though I wish it hadn't been so overdue. Still, it seems that being put into highly dangerous situations is one way to provoke evolution.

I suppose this does bring up a curious question, though. To evolve, or not to evolve. For me, it was a no brainer, but others may be less enthused about changing their physical forms yet again. Evolution is, after all, irreversible.

So humor me. Do you wish to evolve, or are you content as you are?

I was a spherical bird the size of a volleyball, one of the smallest off-world residents, and this came with many disadvantages that I endured for more than a year.

I believe I'm well within my rights to take pride in this change.

If you exclude the hammer, I believe so. The hammer certainly amplifies your silhouette and makes you far more imposing.

True. Not everyone will evolve, which I'm sure brings its own frustrations and complications. Yet, some may have the potential to undergo even more drastic physical changes.

[ April was clearly the month of everyone hogging all of the height in Dolly's eyes as she tunes into the broadcast. Did Sylveon even have more evolutions? Dolly wasn't sure at all... ]

[ Clearly...Dolly was gonna be asking Akechi and Emporio to reach the top shelves for her from now on. Oh look Akechi, the teacup sized Sylveon is on the grumpearl for a change! ]

May I ask what exactly happened out there? I never really got around to asking about it just yet.

In short, we were tasked with locating one of the teams that had gone missing during the search for Chimecho-san's missing teammates. The region was beset by a horrible fog, which forced us to find alternative ways to communicate besides spoken word...

Along the way, we encountered a particularly aggressive Garchomp, who had been driven to wit's end by the aforementioned fog, and... well.

[He gestures at himself.]

A moment of crisis pushed me to evolve.

It doubtless helped in her case that as far as being a bird went, she wasn't really that small. Not like some people!

"To be fair, simply adapting to a new body is already cumbersome. And, it's my understanding that your evolved form would be considerably larger." He projects a mental image of a Braviary... specifically the Hisuian variety, as one lives among the Lum Berries. "Nonetheless, I appreciate it."

How did it feel-- did your muscles and bones change and contort? [He imagines the process being much more body horror-like than it is.] What exactly provoked it? I've already been in dozens of 'highly dangerous situations.'

Honestly, it was surprisingly painless. It felt... strange? My body was growing, shifting in shape, but there was this uncanny warmth to it...

As for the circumstances, a particularly disoriented Garchomp attacked, and Ren intercepted a Thunder Fang with Sucker Punch.

[Which, well... Obviously, that would smart, particularly after losing a type resistance.]

I don't think I have any more evolutions. But even if I did, uh. I don't think I'd have a choice. I mean, if you mutate, you mutate.

Technically, I already could. The move Fly is surprisingly versatile, but it should be easier now.

[Still, he has to at least flex a little. Even when he was small, he could still do things!]

Still, I believe Everstones can prevent further evolution. It's simply not an avenue I wish to pursue.

[Maybe he is a little sad that they're not Two Round Bois anymore, but--this is good! What's the most important is having a form that you feel confident in.]

Evolving...if I can do it, I think it would certainly be nice to be a bit bigger and have a bit of a more useful skillset, but I'm certainly more tn content to make do with what I've been given.

If I recall correctly, you should gain the dragon type when you evolve. That ought to bring some new advantages, but colder regions will be especially hazardous.

[Cedric just stares at the Grumpearl for a long moment. Even without the voice, he notices the physical similarities to Akechi's previous form right away, and can even spot hints of the Corviknight he saw in that shared dream between them.

The same dream where he was a Honchkrow... a big, strong, dare he even say majestic Honchkrow, even if the image is completely wrong for him... but it did feel very pleasant... no, Cedric, it was just a dream, they just make you feel that way...

It's around this thought that he realises he's been staring rather than replying to his friend, so he straightens up and clears his throat.]

Well, firstly, I say congratulations are in order, Akechi. You've been wanting a bigger form for a long time, and if any of us deserve one, it's only sensible you should be first in line.

As for your question...

[He falls into silence for a few more seconds. Wait, why is he debating this? The answer's obvious, isn't it?]

I suppose, thanks to a little winter present, I could theoretically evolve if I so please. However, as you say, the transformation is irreversible, and if I must remain in a corvid form for the rest of my life... [He's hesitating again. Why is this so hard to say?] I-I think I would rather it be this one.

[Perhaps unsurprisingly, his final response is not as convincing as he'd like to think it is.]

[Akechi can tell that there's this air of uncertainty. Of course, it's not his place to force a decision one way or the other. Whether someone evolves or not is entirely up to them.]

You could always get an Everstone if you're worried. It would at least give you the time and luxury to decide at your own pace.
