Greetings. This is Akechi. I realize that this transformation may be a bit alarming, but I thought it best to announce my recent evolution so that no one believes I've disappeared.

This new form is far more suitable, though I wish it hadn't been so overdue. Still, it seems that being put into highly dangerous situations is one way to provoke evolution.

I suppose this does bring up a curious question, though. To evolve, or not to evolve. For me, it was a no brainer, but others may be less enthused about changing their physical forms yet again. Evolution is, after all, irreversible.

So humor me. Do you wish to evolve, or are you content as you are?

Technically, I already could. The move Fly is surprisingly versatile, but it should be easier now.

[Still, he has to at least flex a little. Even when he was small, he could still do things!]

Still, I believe Everstones can prevent further evolution. It's simply not an avenue I wish to pursue.

[ Thinking: ] Oh right, those stones. I guess they weren't useful when nobody was evolvin', right? I think I was given one - maybe it's one of th'ones I did some crafting with.

True. When we couldn't evolve, they were little more than trinkets. Now...

[He hums, thinking of some of his accumulated stones.]

Truthfully, I've been torn between keeping them for their aesthetics or trading them for more useful wares.

Shinier wares, you mean.

[ It's said clearly as a joke. ] I still wonder what, exactly, this evolution is. Because it's clearly not a bad thing to... most?

I'd liken it to the metamorphoses that many insects and amphibians undergo combined with natural maturing that you'd see in ordinary mammals and birds. Most likely, it grows more abstract the more abstract the Pokémon.

After all, Gastly goes from a gaseous orb to a...

[What would he even describe a Gengar as?]

...Well, I suppose it's not dissimilar to a more impish mascot character.

Have you even seen what a not-evolved Dragonite looks like? They, uh, have no hands. Or legs. I don't get how a snake becomes a dragon - maybe you do?

The closest approximation I can think of is tadpoles. They start out limbless, but sprout legs as they reach maturity.

[It's... not quite the same, obviously. Reptiles aren't known for metamorphoses the way that amphibians are, but it is worth noting.]

Oh, right, those things. They're pretty rare where I'm from, but yeah. But I don't think Dragonair are sea things? Th'stories say they're livin' in the same places as Dragonite. Out on top of the sea.
