[Today, Akechi presents a rather peculiar object to the Pearls: a smartphone, circa 2016. Certainly state of the art, by Bottlecap Bay standards, but more importantly is the music playing from its speakers.
Soothing, smooth jazz... How he's missed it.]
I'm not entirely sure how, but it seems I've been reunited with one of my belongings from home.
[He shuffles around the phone, brushing off some glitter.]
It took some doing to operate it in my current state, and I'm not certain how I'll keep it charged. If any electric types wish to volunteer their services, I would greatly appreciate it.
In turn, it may be possible to use my phone to better record data and take photographs on missions. I will have to be careful with it, of course. It may have a shockproof case and screen protector, but it is hardly invincible.
Still... If anyone else received technology, perhaps we can pool resources. This has a great deal of potential.

[The 'camera' pans over to reveal a handheld gaming console, laid gently on the floor. Heroic RPG music is playing from the speakers. By tapping very carefully with her hooves, she can operate what looks like a turn-based RPG-- namely, Dragon Blazers. (The closest touchpoint for Akechi or other observers might be 'Dragon Quest'.) A few of Noelle's roommates are gathered around, watching her play and/or taking turns... though Noelle seems to guard the console very, very closely.
Also, residual glitter has gotten everywhere in the Spire's low-tier housing. Whoops.]

[He takes a moment to observe through the Pearl. It's not quite as versatile as a phone, but it's certainly a good way to pass the time.]
At this rate, we may have to network in order to find a way to keep our devices in working order.

[ But his voice does sound quite relaxed, and-- huh. He's wearing a duster. There's other clothes on his bed, but he's just got a duster on. ] How do you not break that?

[He lifts a wing, moving individual feathers as if they were fingers.]
I used it with gloves before, and it has a very high quality screen protector to better ensure its longevity.

[ He is trying not too sound too shocked. ] And-- they store music, I'm guessin', too. [ he hates sounding so dumbfounded! he hates being this out of place when it comes to the world! ]

It can just do that? I've never heard that kind of music before either...
[ So smooth. His head is tilting back and forth trying to make sense of this. ]

[Heh, heh... How does he approach this? Technological discrepancies can be a difficult bridge to cross.]
I suppose jazz would be a bit too modern for your era. It came into being after the industrial revolution and many other developments.

[Even though it's only been month since she's gotten here, Mayaka says this with full conviction. She suddenly misses sending texts with emojis and taking reference photos with her phone. Even more, she misses Satoshi, who is the only one she texts without fail everyday, even when they have nothing new to share. He always had something fun to tell her.
She pauses, trying to recognise the music she hears coming from the phone.]
So this is the kind of music you like, huh? [She doesn't sound surprised.]
no subject
[Yes, just soak in the vibes, Mayaka. Enjoy the soothing vocals. He lets the music keep playing uninterrupted.]

Well that just rocketed technology forward a few centuries. We can do a lot more with that than photos, notes, and jazz.

[He flashes a smirk at the phone, still playing its pleasant tunes.]
But with only a few phones to work with, replicating the technology may prove difficult. Not to mention, we'll have to adapt the devices to retain power within this world.

[A phone, huh? She tilts her head, trying to get a better look.]
It seems pretty lightweight! That must be convenient out in the field. It's like it's in compact compact form!
no subject
[He looks down at a wing and grimaces before shaking said wing. Damn glitter, getting on his coat.]
But, yes. It's very lightweight, with faster processing power than older models of cell phones. Its built in camera may come in handy during field missions as well.

[ Not like with Firoza's shield, that one time? ]
Interesting ideas though! Though. What will you do when you run out of storage? It is not like there are any PCs to transfer or back up the data to.
no subject
[Though that had a lot less digging by comparison...]
Admittedly, storage does present a unique conundrum, unless the presence of phones gives the locals an opportunity to rapidly advance technology.
[That seems unlikely, however...]
