[As a Meiji era child, keeping on top of all the latest devices can be a bit of a whirlwind. It's an exciting one, though, always getting to learn something new! But for the next iteration of video calls to be.. a magical pearl...
Something feels backwards.
Rather,
Establishing a connection comes too easily the moment Akira thinks of it. Why wouldn't it? It's his own vision at first, a mess of tablets on types, moves and status effects, before he closes his eyes to seamlessly transfer to the grumpearl's perspective. Its holder is revealed to be a Slowking, the one previously bound to the clinic using his newly attained guild status to scour the archives instead. As he reopens his eyes with the view unchanged, he laughs.]
Sorryyy, force of habit.
[Sharing his own sight, and all.]
Anyway!
It seems our bodies are designed for combat, but I'm not really a fan of fighting, myself. So I've been researching Status moves instead.
A lot of them are pretty straightforward, right? Like inflicting and curing basic conditions, or boosting and suppressing our innate strengths. I'm not talking about those. More specifically, I've been learning about Terrains-- large scale effects that benefit friend and foe alike, and seem to have preventative capabilities. It sounds like some Pokemon even form these fields without thinking about it.
[So... On to the point. He soon looks determined.]
Does anyone have one? Can you show me how it works? I'm afraid I'm not strong enough yet to use one myself.
[Or to those more perceptive, maybe Psychic Terrain just isn't what he's searching for.]

[When his eyes reopen, so do the Shellder's. It's Akira's side that becomes disorienting next, as visuals meld into all three perspectives at once.]
But how were you electrocuted? An accident? An attack? Struck by lightning? If it became a natural ability for you, I'd like to see more examples of how it affects your Pokemon form. Is it why you became an Electric type, too? Are your moves stronger than those of the other Electric ones here? I want to know.

(A) An accident.
[There's a flash of Technus's memory of his death. A stormy summer night, excitement and pride, a glorious invention he can't remember the purpose of anymore, flipping a switch- and then immediately blacking out.
His death itself wasn't as quick as that, but he doesn't remember the actual dying part. Enough electrical current applied to the head leads to near instant loss of consciousness, meaning he was unconscious when the electricity surged through the rest of his body and killed him.]
I acquired electrical powers after I died. Many ghosts where I'm from acquire powers based on how they died. My acquaintance-
[Technus's train of thought is interrupted as he thinks about Skulker. A large, buff robotic man, made of many panels, with green flames for hair. And most importantly to Technus, the entire reason why his thought process was derailed- those panels unfolding to reveal high-tech weaponry such as laser guns.]
What marvelous machinery...
Anyways! His girlfriend died in a fire, and has control over fire. So it is just how things work where I am from!
I am not sure if I am stronger than other Pokemon here, but I certainly have more practice than many of them!

You were dedicated to the sciences, too? It's a shame to see an inventor's mind taken from the world. A great number of advancements in our society relied so heavily on human technology. What kinds of new opportunities would I have had if there were more of it?
[... No, it's pointless to think about that. His opportunities now lie in documenting all he can on the details and treatment of Pokemon. Which means.. if they backtrack a little...]
So? As you said, you lack arms. If you had them, what would you do? If your ideas are interesting, I'd like to help them continue in this world as well.

I must advance the technological level of this world! It is far too primitive for my liking. I am thinking phones, music players, fridges, fans, washing machines... computers may be a bit too advanced at the moment but I am sure I can make one eventually. I have forever, after all! Gerbil boy and backpack boy offered their help in my quest already, but more people to assist me is always a good thing!

Fridges? Hmm. When I was younger-- oh, I guess before you were born-- I remember our icebox had worked well enough for food. The city doesn't seem too far behind the times in that regard, but I can't deny more precise temperature control could become an asset for storing medications once I get to develop them. Do you think we could make one?

The heat pump used in refrigerators could be used in many other things as well! Used for heating and cooling all sorts of things- as summer comes around, that shall be helpful!

We got ours in the late Taisho era. Since the mainland's usually so advanced, I thought humans had already had them for a while!
[Could the misunderstanding have come from simply being a spoiled rich kid that got everything right as it came out, instead? ... Nah. Never.]
But, did you forget? We're Pokemon now. Whether it's Fire in the winter, or Water and Ice in the summer, I think our moves will take care of our survival! Oh! If we're only talking components, rather than a heat pump, what about the washing machine? It's so funny since we don't have clothes for it, but I want the centrifuge for my research! Pleaaaase?

[Technus calculates his current age in his head, and all the calculations come through the Grumpearl. 2008 - 1900 = 108... 2008 - 1977 = 31...]
108 years of existence, 31 of those dead.
I do not know what the Taisho era is. Is that... eh... Japanese? Mainland... Japan is an island, so probably Japanese. I am from America.
Yes, Pokemon can use their moves to do things, but what about Pokemon who do not have those moves? There are only so many Fire and Water and Ice Pokemon! I have seen some Pokemon wear clothes, so a washing machine would help with that. The doll girl wears a costume! And yes, a centrifuge would be incredibly useful. I will add that to my list.
It is becoming a rather long list.

I'm a little over 140, I thiiink? Still alive and healthy!
[Or maybe 150? Or was it under? ... With all his patients' details perfectly memorized, he hasn't really felt the need to keep track of his own. Well, whatever. On that note,]
If the ones who won't take anyone's help end up with frostbite or heatstroke, I don't mind giving them a niiice long checkup at the clinic. So we can save our resources and keep that part in the fridge. Now that you mention it, though, are those clothes? [He pulls at his own collar as he asks, fabric-like to the touch, but not quite separating from his neck.] If they are, I'd like to see what's hiding under that doll. And what would happen if that little stuffed bear were thrown in?
no subject
And, no, my technology will be used for the betterment of the world!⁽¹⁾ I shall not let you acquire innocents for your mad doctor schtick, which is what it seems like you are doing!
(1) I, Technus, will then be admired and loved by the people for improving their lives.
[At the mention of "wanting to see what's underneath the doll," a feeling of discomfort and annoyance comes through the connection.]
Even if those clothes are non-traditional, they are still her clothes! It is not "hiding" for her to prefer to cover herself up more! Do not be rude and invasive!
[Says the guy who will be just as rude and invasive and mad-doctor-y if any robotic Pokemon show up.]

Maybe I got it wrong? I thought everyone knew me because I treated them personally, but maybe I was famous and didn't know it? That's no good! If it were just my hospitals, I thought my nurses could fill in for me while I'm gone. If I'm supposed to be famous, will people be let down??
by "tone" i mean the extra "i"s in "niiice" and how that wouldve sounded
What I meant was not about people who shall not take help- it was about the Pokemon with those abilities getting to take time off.
Also! I have no clue who you are! Aside from what you have shared so far!
no subject
Sorry, sorry. I'm Takahashi Akira. I suppose whether I was famous or not doesn't matter since you're a ghost-- our world had all sorts of terrible laws limiting how humans and youkai could interact.
But now that we're all the same, those laws don't exist. Isn't that great? That's why I couldn't help getting excited thinking about all the cute new patients I'd get to meet! Well, it was theoretical anyway. Most animal types are already adapted to living outdoors, and won't have to worry about those conditions. The comforts of a human lifestyle are a choice they should have every right to, but they can do more harm than good if they're forced, so I'm afraid I'll have to put their long term health above a few conveniences until I've learnt more. That means only making as much as we'll use ourselves, for now. Promiise?
no subject
Even animals can benefit from advanced technology! Their long term health will be assisted by my devices, not hindered. You cannot stop me! I, Technus, will advance this world beyond their wildest dreams!

[But the guild leaders probably can. And while they're at it,]
Have you decided where you'll get the materials? After some reading, it seems that steel might be a naturally occurring resource. [Which isn't possible by normal means. He's sure the other knows this.] Do you plan to harvest it?
no subject
Although it's probably more of an answer than not doing anything would be.]
