[audio, right before new arrivals]
Did anyone [else] make a wish, right before ending up here?
[There's a muted, deadened quality to this transmission - someone is trying very hard not to think about. Well. Just about anything!]

audio/voice;
[ it doesn't come through, but now he's thinking about the circumstances of their arrival again... by which he means, the first group of them. the one that arrived not that long before Starfall, or what seemed to be some variation of what Ingo recognized as Tanabata. wishes, the unknown, the future . . .
how active does the want have to be? ]
no subject
[But something they don't totally remember is telling them: there might be exceptions? If they try to examine it too hard, it'll probably go away, so they don't.]
...or wanted something really hard, maybe.
no subject
that Emmet has had a lot of practice operating as he normally would while in public over the last while. but he also can't just dodge out of the question now, so... ]
One thing, maybe. For several years.
no subject
[That doesn't sound like any type of wishing Siffrin knows. But it's not like they have any way of being able to tell if they're missing something.]
Maybe it built up...? [Is that how it works?]
[...]
[. . .]
Was it something that could've been granted by you ending up here?
Even if it's not the way you wanted it granted?
no subject
It came and went. Never disappeared. But sometimes it was stronger than at other times.
[ That's just how it goes? ]
And maybe. I wouldn't have thought so before it happened. But yes.
no subject
I guess it's a maybe, then.
[Their theory needs more evidence! But if everyone else sounds like they have something similar, they're going to assume Emmet's thing counts.]
no subject
Maybe.
[ ... ]
To my knowledge. The first of us here. We arrived not long before a festival here called Starfall.
no subject
Starfall...?
[They should probably hear about this. They're not sure they want to hear about this.]
no subject
[ so... you know. this both is and is probably not what Sif wants to hear, but. ]
[1/2]
[2/2]
Right when the first ones showed up?
...that's really suspicious, isn't it??
[Super duper suspicious! They're absolutely not reading too much into an assumption they made and rotating all the evidence they get until it fits!]
no subject
A few weeks after. We arrived to this station... two, three weeks before, roughly.
[ siffrin: i've connected the dots ]
no subject
[Hmm. That's not quite as compelling, but they're not willing to give it up yet.]
That's still pretty close, though...
[ They've connected them ]
no subject
[ sif are you good, ]
You think we are here because we wished for it. And something heard. Or someone did, and something heard.
What brought this on?
no subject
I remembered something, in the forest, and.
It would fit.
no subject
[ this isn't doubt, it's moreβ Siffrin seems pretty convinced about this in specific? this out of all the other stuff the forest likes to throw at them. ]
no subject
It wasn't something I saw there. [Not exactly, anyway.] It just... reminded me.
I probably would've remembered earlier, if [they weren't giving in to the impulse to avoid the Very Bad Vibes they kept getting when they followed certain trains of thought] I'd tried harder.

[But finally:] It still happened.
[It'd still be something they did. So... it wouldn't be fair of them, right?]
no subject
and then Siffrin does respond. ]
... It still happened. So you ... think you should remember.
[ right? that is different from whether they want to remember, but he isn't going to try to ask that again. ]
no subject
[...]
Someone should.
[They are kind of still talking about the same thing but also kind of talking about something entirely different!]
no subject
If you remember. That's proof it was real, right?
But I don't think not-remembering makes it not-real.
[ Like they said. It still happened, whether or not they remember. There's obviously something here, whatever that weird line between should and want and supposed to is, that he's not quite getting and that they're probably not going to explain, but. This does seem to be bothering them.
He's been accused of being too blunt or too direct at times, but he'll back off after this. ]
[1/2]
[Except.]
[Yeah they literally did just say that something still happened even if they didn't remember it. They didn't mean that to leak in the first place, but they rein themself back in even outside of the Grumpearl.]
[Sure would be good if Siffrin would consider examining further what the distinction between the two (or is it three now?) things they're thinking about is, rather than just recognizing they're contradicting themself! They sure aren't in a mental state to do it!]
[2/2]
So. Someone should. [Repeating themself.]
