[Mayaka places the Grumpearl on the bare floor of her newly acquired accommodations. To anyone tuning in, they'll see that this angle has created a fisheye effect, blowing up the lower part of her white Sneasel body and shrinking her head.]

Um... hello? This is Mayaka. I got here a few days ago and I'm a new member of the Lum Berry Guild.

[She speaks tentatively, assuming that the pearl is working. This reminds her of class introductions on the first day of school.]

Does anyone here know how to deal with these? [She waves her claws at the Grumpearl, trying to show the purple tint covering them -- a naturally-occurring venom Hisuian Sneasels produce.]

I poisoned someone - accidentally of course - and I don't want that to happen again! [The strict tone she uses seems to be directed at herself.]

[As Mayaka waits for a response, she looks around her tiny bedroom. It's sparse now, but she's been itching to set up a space to draw again. She hasn't picked up a pen since she landed here.]

... And also, if anyone knows where to get paper and pens, that would be nice too.

[This is a softer request, as if she'd be okay if no one heard. It's not obvious that she's asking about art materials, right? She doesn't even know if she has enough allowance to afford it after spending on basic necessities. Maybe it's pointless to ask.]

[Mayaka furrows her brow at the Slowking's remark about it not requiring an open wound. It's a very specific thing to point out.]

Treatment is great and all, but I'm hoping not to be the reason someone needs treatment in the first place, [she explains flatly.]

After we escaped from that damn volcano, [she pauses to shudder at what she had to go through after first waking up here,] we got to Skull Town and I think he got treated but he's been gone since!

[Red Velvet has been missing since then, and she didn't see his name on the guild rankings board. Looks like he wasn't assigned a guild? She hopes the Lycaonroc is doing okay.]

[Ahh... He knew listening and staying in place for the storm would take opportunities away from him. So all of that happened at the outpost...

Though he still looks cheerful as ever, there's a hint of.. sadness? No, irritation, that he can't hold back across the grumpearl as he takes in that it might be someone he'll never have as his own patient.]

Actually, it seems pokemon are a unique species that require some amount of fighting in order to grow. Surviving your poison may help them to develop as well, so don't worry!

I just can't recommend using it on purpose before we know the full extent of its effects. Have you considered studying it?

[Huh. Despite first impressions, this doctor seems to know a thing or two, and his reasoning is sound. If anything, his explanation makes her feel less guilty over accidentally poisoning Red Velvet.

Mayaka tilts her head as she considers the Slowking's words, unable to find anything disagreeable. She would certainly like to confirm that this poison on her claws isn't fatal.]

Alright, I'm listening. How do we study this exactly?

Well... How is it released?

If it's meant to aid in hunting, it's possible the venom glands respond to maintaining a tight grip on prey. I'd like to collect some and see what it does.

The poison comes from the tips of the claws and spreads over them. [Mayaka has learned this through observation, though she hasn't figured out how to stop the venom from being produced.]

I'll try to collect some of it and drop by the clinic. A glass bottle should work... I think? [This poison isn't going to be strong enough to damage glass, right?]
