[The feed opens with a close shot of a very red snout sniffing the Grumpearl, accompanied by warm, curious thoughts.

Judging by his wooden surroundings, he's somewhere among the Cheri Berries.

When he pulls back, he reveals himself as... a Charmeleon, with three spiky scales on each of his cheeks and a big, goofy smile.]

Hmm.

[Guilmon taps the pearl with one of his claws.]

It's shiny... Oh! But Guilmon's supposed to talk. Or think? ...Think about talking? Wah...

[He tilts his head, trying to figure out what to say.

Guilmon isn't small anymore. I think I evolved... That's okay, though. Guilmon's evolved lots of times, and now Guilmon has longer arms and legs and is almost Guilmon-shaped.

[And by Guilmon-shaped, he means... well, a a bipedal red dinosaur with black markings, a white belly, and wing-like ears.

The image accompanying his thoughts starts eating bread. Mountains of bread.]

But now Guilmon's tail is on fire... There's lots of wood here. That seems dangerous, but Ribombee said it's okay for Guilmon to be here. Maybe I can use it to make bread.

[He turns around and looks at his tail.]

Oh! But Guilmon will also work hard! Those quests look important, and there's lots of weird mushrooms now. Maybe Guilmon can burn those, too...

Yeah! It's always better when you have friends and partners... Guilmon can't imagine doing all those quests by himself.

[But he still wants to do quests! That sounds fun. Adventures, adventures...]

No, they are fairly short! And I am not one of those Pokemon whose claws continue growing rapidly!

I've done a lot of quests on my own, back home, but it is more fun to do the bigger explorations and dungeons with friends. And easier.

[You're not allowed to do Alliance Raids solo after all]

Are you not used to being with other people?

[Or maybe there's something else... Guilmon gives a puzzled look, scratching his cheek with his claws.]

Claws like that sound really weird... You'd have to keep using rocks or trees to keep them short!

[He stares down at his own claws now. Are they gonna be like that, too?]

[guilmon]

Yeah! And the forest's really, really big... I bet there's lots of stuff to find!

[And they're right there! Kind of. Higher up, but it's a start!]

Some Pokemon have teeth like that! They must gnaw regularly to keep them down! It's most common in rodent-like Pokemon, which are largely small normal-types, but it's also true of Rapidash and Copperajah!

[nevermind him, he just likes this stuff]

Oh, not really. I uh...I wasn't really able to go around in public at home either...

[Lots of glimpes of...hiding. Wow!!! Relatable.]

What I meant though was...it's like how you're a digimon. You could say you and a bunch of others were digimon right?

I'm not used to having that. Where I was...I was the only kid.

That too! [ Guilmon, too precious for this world. ] Good point, actually. Maybe we're too close to the coast to see most of them.

[ And you know what? Laios respects a fellow lad of science. ] Smell anything different? I noticed some Pokémon have special glands to control their fire. Maybe you do too!

Copperajah... So is it made of metal, or is it a cop?

[Police exist! There could be police Pokémon, but copper is also a metal.

Quite the conundrum.]

[guilmon]

Oh. That sounds really lonely...

[He wilts, whining softly. That's no fun at all...]

But did you have friends? Even if they weren't kids?

[guilmon]

Glands?

[Sniff, sniff... Different smells? Well...]

It smells like fire. I guess that's new? Guilmon's tail wasn't on fire before...

[Ingo has no idea what that is! But it's presumably not the case anyhow.]

No, they are made of metal! Steel types!

That's right! They're special organs that can secrete all sorts of things, like sweat or saliva or a fuel-like substance, in some cases. It should smell a bit more oily than usual.

I think that's how some Pokémon control the flames on their bodies, but... Can you change how big your flame is? Maybe it's not as intuitive as I thought.

There usually are many things to be found in forests, this is true.

[Sometimes there's cool sunken-in forests inside forests that glow blue and have deep cenote water pool things and elaborate ancient temples and people pissed off they can't grow anything other than blue holo-effect bananas]

[His grumpearl is a hot potato, it sure is.] ...It was. ...I made...a few friends, from the adults there.

But you can't really risk a lot when you need to hide, so I had to be careful who I met.

[guilmon]

Aw... That's no fun. Was it dangerous there?

[It's the only thing he can think of, anyway. Why else would a kid need to hide?]

[guilmon]

Hmmm...

[Guilmon stares at his tail, sharp and intense.]

Get bigger!

[...]

C'mon! Bigger!

[Still nothing.]

Rrrgh... Bigger!!

[All too suddenly, the flame BURSTS to life, and Guilmon yelps.]

Wah, not that big! I don't want to set the room on fire!

Definitely dangerous, [he confirms, rubbing his head.]

It's...okay now though? I'm here, and you are too- no hiding for either of us!

[dunchies]

[ Laios leans in close to his pearl, eager to see how Guilmon might be able do it, only to jump back at the sudden burst and unfortunate yelp. ]

Ah! Guilmon! The Canopy! [ He can't tell if anything caught fire yet, but maybe encouraging this while Guilmon is surrounded by trees wasn't the best idea. ] Are you okay? Can you put it out? Should I come help?

[guilmon]

Water's probably not good either!

[He's holding his tail, trying to keep the fire away from any leaves and wood.]

Come on... You don't have to be big anymore! Guilmon understands now!

[It may be that his nerves are what's keeping it so big. A reaction to his mood...]

[guilmon]

Cops... arrest people. And do law stuff.

[That's what he knows. There's probably more to it than that, but Guilmon is a simple fellow.]

But metal makes sense... maybe. But if they're copper, why are they steel type?

[guilmon]

Do you think there's any secret treasures? That'd be lots of fun to find!

[Something about exploring and treasures just feels right to him. Call it a hunch.]

[guilmon]

Yeah! And we can help people and eat good food and maybe even play!

[Playing is important! Play, play, play...

There's an overwhelming feeling of joy and excitement pulsing through the pearl.]
